In the garden

I planted most of my seeds and potatoes last weekend and put the tomatoes, peppers, cucumber and eggplant in the unheated greenhouse to harden them off. When the weather warms up a little more I'll buy two zucchini plants and I'm hoping to find a cantaloupe plant as well, I'd like to give it a try. I'll start some pumpkin seeds and if I can dig up another garden I'd like to put down some butternut and spaghetti squash. Last year some buttercup squash showed up but I didn't care for it too much.

In the greenhouse.

Did a little tour of my garden today and snap peas, radishes, turnips, lettuces and chard have sprouted and I'm waiting on onions, potatoes, carrots, parsnips and green onions. I have one row left which will go to green beans..I can't believe I don't have any room for beets. I've never planted parsnips so if they don't produce they are out and beets will be back in next year.

You can't see much growing but here is the veggie garden.

And the artichokes are making an appearance amid the grass and weeds, must get out there..

Wow, to have things popping out of the garden already. Must be pretty exciting. I can't wait until I can get planting something...still way too cool here.

That garden and greenhouse look very nice. Cool walkway boards. Pretty soon you'll have plenty of fresh veggies!!

You seedlings and garden look like they are well on the way. I have a sad report about my peat pellets. I have been putting them out in the sun every day and bringing them under the front porch at night, or indoors if it is forecast to be windy. The last trip we made to town I decided to leave them on the bench of the picnic table but without the plastic cover, just in case the wind came up unexpectedly (it blows off pretty easily). When we got back to the cabin a hungry little mouse had dug down and eaten all the seeds except for six tomatos and three zucchinis. All the corn, peas, beans and pumpkins are gone. Well, maybe again next year. At least all of the seeds I planted directly in the soil are coming up nicely, and they are protected out in the float garden from gnashing little teeth. - Margy
